Caps vs. Pens 1/21/10 The Rematch

Caps beat the Pens in a rematch of last years epic playoff series. The Penguins beat the Caps in game 7 and Washington fans had to wait until January 21, 2010 for this game. The defending champs lost 6-3 on home ice against a red hot Washington squad who has been unstoppable in the month of January. The Caps high octane offense and great goal tending by veteran Jose Theodore and rookie Michael Neuvirth has helped propel the Caps to the top spot in the east.

Caps Continue Hot-Streak With 10th Straight Win

The Washington Capitals continue to be red hot in the month of January as they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Center to extend their streak to 10 straight. This win ties the franchise record set back in 1984. The Caps have been red hot since naming Alex Ovechkin the captain of the team after trading former captain Chris Clark to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ovechkin scored the game winning goal with 6:26 left in the 3rd period. The Caps next face Boston on Tuesday night with a chance to break the franchise record if they can score their 11th straight win.

Capitals/Penguins 2009 NHL Playoffs Tribute

This is just a tribute done by the CBC before game 7 in last years epic playoff duel between the Capitals and the Penguins. The Caps would end up losing in a rather lopsided manner as the Pens steal it in 7. Of course the Penguins would go on to win the Stanley Cup in a rematch of 2008 finals match against the Detroit Red Wings.

Mike Green Suspend

Capitals defender Mike Green was suspended Saturday for an elbow leveled against Florida's forward, Michael Frolik, in Friday nights win. Green will be suspended three games without pay. The league handed down the suspension in its effort to cut down on headshots. This is bad news for us as we lose our #1 offensive-defensive player for 3 games. We managed to grab a victory against the Bolts on Sunday but can we survive another 2 games without Green?

Ovechkin, Sedin, Vokoun named best of January.

Alex Ovechkin was one of the 3 stars of the month of January in the NHL. The Capitals had their best month of the season and it is no surprise that their new captain and superstar was one of these honored players. Ovechkin totaled 9 goals and 26 points with a plus 16 rating making him the player of the month. Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks was named the second star recording another 25 points in an impressive season. Sedin leads the league in points at 78. Florida Panthers net-minder Tomas Vokoun was named third star with a January record of 8-4-2 in January allowing only 21 goals in 14 games.

My Washington Capitals Blog!

Hi! My name is Chris and I'm starting this blog as part of my Govt. 300 required IT portion of the class. I figured I would base this blog on the Washington Capitals, our local hockey team. I love watching hockey for it's speed, physicality, and the display of skill put on day in and day out by all the great players in the National Hockey League (NHL). I would love to expose more people to the sport and the great team that we have in the nation's capital.
